Calvert Community Baby Shower
Calvert community representatives are coming together to support and nurture our youngest residents at the Calvert Community Baby Shower. Expectant parents and families with newborns 6 months and younger are invited to a FREE event on Saturday, February 25 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Calvert Library, Prince Frederick at 850 Costley Way in Prince Frederick. Families will enjoy interactive activities, many giveaways, and receive loads of information on health, safety and appropriate development during pregnancy and infancy. Families can also participate in a Swap Event to exchange gently used baby items for other needed items. The Community Baby Shower will bring partners in health and early education together to demonstrate how to support and nurture young babies and their families.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) acknowledges that “advances in a wide range of biological, behavioral, and social sciences are expanding our understanding of how early environmental influences…affect learning capacities, adaptive behaviors, lifelong physical and mental health, and adult productivity.” The AAP now recommends the promotion of early literacy development for children to begin in infancy, advising all parents that reading aloud with young children can enhance parent-child relationships and prepare young minds. Good health before birth and in early childhood is an essential component of school readiness. The Community Baby Shower offers parents an opportunity to learn more about how to ensure their child will get a healthy start for a healthy future.
The Calvert Community Baby Shower is sponsored by the Healthy Families/HIPPY Calvert County Program a part of Calvert County Public Schools, the Calvert County Health Department, the Judy Center Partnership and the Calvert Library.
