Events givingtimetuesday-3

There are several local nonprofits participating in the #GivingTuesday movement this year but one in particular is veering off the traditional path. Instead of seeking monetary donations, The Promise Resource Center is asking for pledges of time spent with children. This holiday season, PRC is stressing the importance of  building healthy family relationships and the benefits of spending quality, uninterrupted time with our young children. Thus, they have renamed their campaign to #GivingTimeTuesday.

For every 1 hour pledged on their website to spend time with a child, The Promise Resource Center will donate 1 book to an at-risk family enrolled in their programs. These families often do not have the resources to afford new books. Along with the donation of each book, our in-home interventionists will teach the families about the importance of early literacy and school readiness, how to use the book appropriately to help nurture a healthy parent-child relationship, and provide ideas on using the book as a foundation for other stories that foster creativity and imagination.

PRC knows that most parents already spend several hours together with their children everyday so it’s not an impossible commitment to take the pledge (and local families will benefit too)!

PRC has released a video that shows a story similar to cases they take on a daily basis to show exactly what kind of families they work with and who the donated books will benefit.

Background on Giving Tuesday: Every year, organizations from all over the world set up Giving Tuesday campaigns to raise funds for their programs. Giving Tuesday is meant to be a day to reflect and give back to the community after spending so much time, effort, and money on gifts during the Thanksgiving weekend, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday events.
